METHOD/ˈmɛθəd/ n. a procedure for attaining an object, conducted in a defined order

Fluency is not a talent. It is a trained outcome.

It can be measured before training starts, planned in writing, and measured again at the end. Everything on this page follows from that.

/ˈθiːsɪs/The thesis

English training in India is sold as a course: so many weeks, so many classes, a certificate at the end. What is never sold is a measurement of where you stood before and where you stand after.

That is not an accident. A measurement puts in writing what the institution owes you, and it makes failure visible. A market that has never been asked for one has no reason to start.

An institution that cannot tell you your level cannot tell you whether it changed it.

We run the sequence in the opposite order. A live assessment on the Common European Framework comes first. A written plan comes second: the features to close, the order, the months. Then five live sessions a week until the plan is done, and a second assessment on the same scale.

/ˈfeɪljə/Why conventional training fails

Five reasons it was never going to work.

01

Grammar is taught instead of speech

/ˈɡræmə/

Knowing the rules of the perfect tenses and producing one under conversational pressure are different capacities, separately acquired. Rule-based instruction produces learners who can explain English and cannot use it.

02

Repetition is mistaken for practice

/ˈpræktɪs/

Drilling what you already know consumes time and extends nothing. Practice is productive only at the edge of what you can currently do, where failure is possible. Most classroom repetition sits well inside that edge.

03

Correction arrives too late

/kəˈrɛkʃən/

An error is correctable for the few seconds you still hold the sentence in mind. Feedback at the end of the hour, or on a sheet next week, is information. You understand it, and you repeat the error.

04

One syllabus for every learner

/ˈsɪləbəs/

Two professionals can sound equally fluent and be held back by entirely different things: one by a thin range of structures, the other by first-language interference in pronunciation. A single syllabus fixes whichever one it happens to contain.

05

Trainers hired for fluency, not training

/ˈtreɪnəz/

Speaking a language and knowing how it is acquired are unrelated. Language acquisition is a studied field with its own certifications. In most of this market, neither is asked of the person at the front of the room.

/ˈprəʊsɛs/The method in full

Assessment. Strategy. Delivery.

In that order. Each stage produces what the next one needs.

01

Assessment

A trained examiner establishes where you stand.

The assessment is live and one-to-one with a certified assessor. It examines speaking, listening and pronunciation under conditions that require unscripted speech, because a level read off prepared material is not a level.

The result is placed on the Common European Framework of Reference: six bands, maintained by the Council of Europe and used across European education, employment and immigration. We apply the scale. We did not write it.

The assessment also records what is holding your level in place. Two speakers at B1 rarely got there for the same reason.

02

Strategy

A plan is written for one speaker.

Which features to address, in what sequence, over how many months. Sequence matters: some constraints cannot be worked on until others are cleared, and a plan that ignores that spends months on material you cannot yet absorb.

Duration is set here, and set by distance. B1 to B2 and A2 to C1 are not the same job, and no honest programme quotes them the same number. Programmes run six to fifteen months.

The plan is on paper before training begins. That is what makes the final assessment mean something: the target was written down in advance.

Delivery

The plan is executed, and then tested.

Five live sessions a week, ninety minutes each, with an in-house trainer working from lesson plans written that day. Input pitched just above your level. Sustained speaking under conditions that expose the gap between what you understand and what you can produce. Correction while the sentence is still in working memory.

Practice under real conditions (the meeting, the interview, the disagreement) because fluency that only survives in the classroom was never built.

At the end, a second assessment on the same scale, by a certified assessor. What changed is recorded in the same units as the first measurement.

Consultation

The method begins with a measurement.

A consultation establishes whether your target can be reached, over what period, and at what intensity. If it cannot, you are told before any fee is discussed.
